Since March 2005, SWANCC-area residents have had the opportunity to exchange a mercury-containing thermometer
for an environmentally-friendly equivalent.

Additionally, mercury-containing thermostats and wall switches were collected for recycling. The following towns have agreed to extend the program for a longer period of time. Please see the following for drop-off locations.

Do NOT bring mercury-containing theremometers to SWANCC's office. Under no circumstance should you leave mercury-containing material unattended.

Mercury poses health risks, especially to young children, and mercury-containing products should be replaced with safer alternatives whenever possible.  For additional information about mercury, visit the Illinois Department of Public Health website.

Do not bring batteries, chemical compounds or any other type of waste to this collection program. No institutional or business waste will be accepted.
