SWANCC Information Guide
This brochure gives an overview of who SWANCC is, highlighting the Glenview Transfer Station, the importance of recycling and buying recycled-content or sustainable products.
How Much Garbage Goes to the Glenview Transfer Station?
Each year member communities bring about 270,000 tons of garbage to SWANCC transfer station.
Recycling Rates in the SWANCC Region
Since 1993, 40% of the garbage from single-family homes (and some multi-family) in the SWANCC region has been kept out of the landfills due to effective curbside recycling programs. These recycling programs, combined with landscape waste (such as small branches, grass clippings and leaves) to be collected separately and made into compost, have given the SWANCC region its recycling success.
"Closing the Loop" of Recycling
Materials that are recycled get reprocessed and made into new products. Recycled paper is made into new paper, glass jars and bottles are made into new glass containers, steel and aluminum cans are made into new cans. Plastic bottles and containers are recycled into other products such as clothing, carpet, plastic lumber, toys and more.
